By the time your senior year has rolled around, college is looming in front of you. If you haven’t done anything to prepare until this point, it is definitely crunch time. However, it is not too late to get into a good school, and you can still buckle down and make it happen.

1. Start applying for schools. If you have not already started applying for colleges, you will need to start right away. The sooner you get your application in, the better your chances are of being accepted. It is a good idea to have a top ten list of the best schools as well as a few alternates. It can take months to hear back, so you’ll want to apply at the first of the school year.

2. Buckle down at your studies. If you have slacked off for the past three years, it’s going to be pretty hard to undo the damage you’ve caused to your grade point average. However, you can still turn things around if you try hard enough. You may not be able to make it to a 4.0, but you can try to come close. If necessary, take extra courses to help build up your average.

3. Pick your major. If you have not already decided what your major will be, now is the time to make your choice. If you cannot decide, pick three of the ones that suit you the best and then look for a college that offers all three. You can narrow it down later in the year if necessary.

4. Stay or get involved. If you have not been involved in your school or community activities until this point, it’s better late than never. Although you won’t have the benefit of four years of service, you’ll at least have something to show on your applications. If you have been involved, keep going, it will pay off.

5. Get your recommendation letters ready. When you apply for colleges, you’ll need to have recommendation letters ready. Approach your favorite teachers and ask them to write a letter for you. It is best to do this early on in the school year before they get overwhelmed with students who need the same thing.

It is never too late to prepare for college, but it is best to start as soon as possible. Even if you slacked off until now, you still have a chance to turn things around at this point in your life.
